National Fuel Gas Company’s Pipeline and Storage Segment will soon seek approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to construct approximately 82 miles of 24-inch natural gas pipeline in Elk, Jefferson, Clearfield, Cameron and Clinton Counties and compressor stations in Jefferson County (approximately 19,000 HP) and Elk County (approximately 7,000 HP). The new 82-mile pipeline system will transport locally produced Marcellus Shale gas to the market center at Leidy, P.A., and provide reliable supplies of energy to western Pennsylvania and the northeastern U.S.

This project will consist of two sections. The East Section will begin near Weedville, P.A., and end at Leidy Station near Renovo, P.A. The West Section will begin at Overbeck Station near Sigel, P.A., and end near Weedville, P.A. The West Section, for the most part, will run parallel to National Fuel’s 12-inch pipeline known as FM-100. We intend to submit our 7c application to FERC in February 2011, in anticipation of construction beginning in late summer of 2011 and a targeted in-service date of November 2012.

Public meetings were held in March 2010 at the locations below in order to provide information about the project and its potential impact on property owners and others in the area.

Company representatives are currently surveying the property on the proposed pipeline route. These surveys will provide us with the data needed to help determine the most suitable route for this pipeline project. Factors used in making this determination include, but are not limited to: environmental or archeological sensitivity, the presence of threatened and endangered species, pipeline engineering issues, site conditions (including locations of buildings, drain tiles, wells, and other natural and manmade features), geological conditions and cost.

Once the final route is selected, affected property owners will be offered fair compensation for the use of their land and for temporary economic loss caused by construction. Historically, the presence of a natural gas pipeline, which is buried a minimum of three feet underground, has not reduced property values. In addition, National Fuel is committed to restoring the areas affected during the construction to original or better condition, and allowing the continued used of the land for agricultural and recreational purposes.
